Lunar Pincushions V1
-----------------------------

Author's Notes:

A tile set introduction map I've had the pleasure of creating to show off C_A_P's latest work. Watch out for the sharp edges but don't worry about metal or energy. There is lots of sun, numerous metal deposits and a good number of geothermal vents. The default AI loves this map.

Story:
The giant lunar spires cast their mile long shadows across his back as sharp rivers of jet-black darkness trickled over the mottled surface of the prickled planet around him. He knew that on such a world as this nothing stirred except the crackle of the electrical fire that still raged in his D-gun's left gravitational-wave conduit.

Here there were no gentle gusts of lush tropical air. No odor of sulfur or of the rot common to the lava worlds. No scent of sea salt from the waves crashing onto the shore of a slate world's beachhead.

Here there was but pure and welcomed silence.

The crippled Core commander crouched in a pool of inky darkness on the western edge of a small circular canyon. Silently he let his automated repair nano-bots continue their instinctive regeneration of his damaged systems. The battle to crush the Arm scum on Evergreen-Seven had been intense. Had his fourth Krogoth guard not sacrificed their androidal existence while he fine-tuned the Arm galactic jump gate he would be now but a digital memory.

He had watched as the final two of the original nine were vaporized by an Arm tactical nuke. Even though he had been over 8 cycle units distant from the blast the shock wave of their termination had nearly destroyed him and the Arm device he had just repaired.

The gate activated. In a nearly instinctive transmission to the machine he selected 'Random Destination' and fell into the blue misty vortex. 'Anywhere but here.' he thought as the electrical prickle of the quantum jump field enveloped him.

As the field consumed him he had one last view of the defeat that had become Evergreen-Seven as well as the three Arm Commanders nearing the entrance to the gate he had just repaired. The same three that had nearly reached him three cycles ago and the three he had never been able to shake his echo from their proximity sensors. While each had been charred and damaged by the nuclear detonation of his last two Korgoths all were still functioning.

As well as targeting.

Around him now were the perfectly sharp ridges of an impact crater formed eons ago. Without rain or wind the signs of that ancient moment of obliteration lingered as though it had happened but a few cycles ago. A perfect location to recover, he thought. And soon enough, he hoped, to build the defense and offense necessary to secure this planet for the glorious Core. Soon the inferior technology of the Arm would reach him even in this secluded spot. Their long-range radar would once again locate his energy signature no matter where he hid. His total annihilation would become their one prime directive. Reversed it was also a directive he and his next wolf pack of Krogoth guards would share.
